The revenues of the railway branch in Tartous during the past year amounted to about 3 billion and 300 million Syrian pounds.

The director of the branch, Dr. Eng. Mudar Al-Araj, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the number of passengers who were transported is 315,000, an increase of 61 percent over the year 2020, which is 196,000 passengers, noting that two passenger trains are running between Tartous and Latakia at a rate of four round trips per day, in order to secure the movement of passengers. Travelers, especially Tishreen University students, at symbolic prices, to ease the financial burdens on citizens due to the current conditions, in addition to running a new passenger train between Lattakia and Tartous at a rate of two round trips per day to secure the movement of passengers, especially Tartous University students.

Al-Araj indicated that the branch operates according to the available capabilities of loading and transporting incoming cargo by sea to Tartous port of wheat, barley, corn, soy, oils, billet iron, sheets, equipment and others towards silos, mills, production centers and warehouses on the axes of Tartous, Latakia, Tartous, Homs, Shanshar, Nasiriyah, Al-Sibinah, and recently to Aleppo, in addition to transporting and unloading The incoming loads of phosphate, gravel, fuel and others to the Tartous branch of the phosphate silos in the port, the two gravel stations in Simrian and Banias, the fuel in the cement plant and Baniyas refinery, and recently from the Baniyas refinery to the Tishreen thermal plant in Damascus, and the cement from the Tartous plant to the Amran Company branch in Lattakia.

He added that the volumes of transporting goods executed in the Tartous branch during the past year, "loading and unloading", amounted to about 454,000 tons, with revenues of about 3 billion and 200 million pounds, an increase of 193 percent over the revenue achieved during 2020.

Al-Araj pointed out that the transport was affected by the emergency conditions imposed on Syria due to the unjust siege and the Corona pandemic, indicating that if the capabilities were better in terms of the number of locomotives and the required technical readiness and the availability of line materials, equipment and supplies necessary for the infrastructure and the readiness of the signaling and communication system, an increase in the volume of goods transport would be achieved.
