The district office expects the number of corona cases in the Ebersberg district to rise.

The reason is the now dominant omicron variant.

There are two outbreak events.

District

- The new omicron variant of the corona virus has replaced the delta variant as the dominant virus type less than three weeks after the first case in the Ebersberg district.

A case was first reported on December 15, 2021.

In the past week, almost 39 percent of the suspected cases related to Corona-Omikron and just under 30 percent to Corona-Delta.

This was announced by the Ebersberg district office on Monday upon request from EZ.

In the rest of the cases, the variants are currently unknown.

Three weeks after the first Omicron case: Corona mutation replaces Delta

Not all test laboratories are able to evaluate PCR tests for corona variants.

The then due genome sequencing could drag on for a few weeks, which is why there could be delays with some samples, the office continued.

In order to finally confirm a suspected case, genome sequencing is necessary, if possible.

There is still no meaningful data on this.

There was also a lack of statistical surveys on vaccination rates among infected people.

Omikron: Two outbreaks in the Ebersberg district

Overall, there could be delays in the case investigation and in the laboratory tests, the district authority replied to the question of the influence of the holidays over Christmas and New Year.

"However, an upward trend is assumed, especially with regard to the Omikron variant."

Meanwhile, the health department is observing two outbreaks: In the western district, five PCR-based suspected cases have been detected among residents of a collective accommodation.

In the northern district, two residents and four employees of a care facility are infected with the Omikron variant.

So far, there have been neither hospital admissions nor deaths.
