North Korea launched an unidentified projectile into the sea, the South Korean military said on Wednesday (Jan.5), marking Pyongyang's first such test in the new year.

The projectile was fired into the sea east of the peninsula, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement, without giving further details immediately.
