Storm in the political system following the revelation of the draft government conversion law of the minister in "Israel Today" • Religious Zionism: "The law is complete privatization of conversion"

A storm in the political system following the unveiling of Minister Matan Kahana's draft government conversion law yesterday in Israel Today, which shows that the law will allow conversions without the Chief Rabbinate's approval, contrary to the commitment of Minister of Religions Matan Kahana.

The Religious Zionist Party stated that "the details revealed today from the conversion law prepared by Matan Kahana and from the internal correspondence in his office show that Kahana is misleading the rabbis as he tells them that his reform will preserve the status of the chief rabbinate in halakhic jurisprudence." "In the words of the minister's representatives, it is completely different. The law that Kahana plans to bring to the Knesset completely nullifies the authority of the chief rabbinate, constitutes complete privatization of conversion in the State of Israel and opens the door to reform and conservative conversions."

It was also reported that "the publications indicate that Kahana, who is apparently afraid of Gilad Karib, does not even want to close the loopholes that the High Court broke through in matters of conversion and determine the minimum thing according to which only state conversions will be recognized in Israel.

In this way, Kahana will allow the recognition of Reform and Conservative converts, in a way that will severely harm the unity of the people and lead to the deception of the converts.

We call on Minister Kahana to return to his intention to dismantle the state conversion and tear the people apart. "

MK Shlomo Qarai (Likud) said in response that "Minister Kahana, below the surface, is selling Judaism to the Reformers.

"He broke through the kosher fence by giving kosher to Badatz Malinowski and Glatt Karib, and now wants to break the last circle of protection of Judaism and drown the people of Israel in a great evening of nations. He will be remembered forever."

Chairman of Jewish Power, MK Itamar Ben Gvir, said that "Minister Kahana lets the reforms convert to Express Conversion, thereby dividing the public, harming the Jewish tradition, and worse leading to polarization and rifts in Israeli society. This is not a reform that will advance us, but a dark policy "It is wrapped in empty slogans that are empty of content and contrary to Halacha."

Yesterday, as mentioned, a draft of Kahana's bill was revealed, from which it appears that the new law will allow conversion that is not in the hands of the Chief Rabbinate.
