A snow storm swept the US state of Virginia, closing the main road between the north and south of the country and causing traffic disruptions.
Reuters quoted the state's Department of Transportation as saying, "The I95 main road that connects the north and south of the country was closed in both directions near Fredericksburg for a distance of approximately 89 kilometers, trapping motorists inside their vehicles."
Some US states faced snow storms with heavy snow falling up to 30 centimeters high in parts of the southeastern United States and the central regions bordering the Atlantic Ocean, causing many car accidents and slips.
The capital, Washington, and its region also faced a blizzard with snowfall, which led to the closure of federal headquarters and schools, bus stops, and disruption to air traffic.
