"
The continued attacks by the Syrian regime and Russia against civilian infrastructure are flagrant violations of international humanitarian law,
" said the spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry.
"
France calls for an immediate de-escalation in Idleb and for the protection of civilians and humanitarian actors in accordance with international law
," added Anne-Claire Legendre.
Russian military planes have bombarded the region for five consecutive days, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) said on Tuesday.
They particularly affected Sunday a water station in al-Arshani, north of the city of Idleb, which supplies more than 300,000 people, said the Observatory and the director of the site.
The Idleb region is home to around three million people, two-thirds of whom are displaced from other parts of the country at war.
The jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Cham, the former Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, and its allies control around half of the province as well as parts of neighboring provinces.
The region has been the subject of a ceasefire since March 2020, negotiated by Russia, an ally of the Syrian regime, and Turkey, a support for the rebels, which is regularly violated.
