Storm in the Knesset: The
opposition announced today (Tuesday) that they are boycotting the Knesset's activities, and will not arrive at the Mishkan until further notice.
What caused the explosion is a discussion that took place in the Knesset committee on the Electricity Law, which is expected to go to a vote tomorrow in the second and third readings, according to which the Interior Minister will approve a connection to electricity in buildings erected without a building permit.
The coalition decided to implement a clause aimed at not allowing the opposition to present arguments against the law and to point out reservations it had submitted - contrary to the position of the Knesset's legal adviser.
"For the first time in the history of the Knesset, the Knesset committee made a decision contrary to the explicit position of the Legal Advisory Service, and decided on an expedited and unprecedented procedure for approving Ra'am's Electricity Law 'in the Knesset," the opposition statement said. "Ra'am, the coalition has revoked the opposition's right to reason and point out any reservations it has submitted."

According to opposition figures, "a precedent will mean that from now on any coalition will be able to silence any opposition in any law and in any debate. Opposition party leaders have decided they have no interest in standing in the game addicted to trampling democracy, until the decision is changed."
Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu will summon the leaders of the opposition parties today for an emergency discussion on the issue.
The coalition management said that "this is the same opposition that made anyone who disagrees with it illegitimate. This is the same opposition that when the ombudsman decided to file an indictment, made it illegitimate.
This is the same opposition that when the trial began, made the judicial system illegitimate.
This is the same opposition that impairs the proper functioning and parliamentary work.
We will continue to call on members of the opposition to return to the job for which they were elected and to cooperate. "
