The President of the Supreme Court decided to conduct an experimental project during 2022, in which readings of judgments that arouse public interest will be broadcast live.


The President of the Supreme Court, Esther Hayut, decided today (Tuesday) to conduct an experimental project during 2022, in which readings of judgments and decisions of the Magistrates' Courts and District Courts that arouse public interest will be broadcast live.

The decision was made following the recommendations of the public team of the discussion in the technological age, headed by the President of the Magistrates' Courts in the Tel Aviv District, Justice Tzachi Uziel.

This decision was supported by all the presidents of the Magistrates' Courts and the District Court in the country. 

The administration of the courts wanted to note that this proposal was intended to contribute to increasing transparency in the judiciary and joins the pilot of live broadcasts from the Supreme Court, publication of requests for freedom of information on the judiciary's website and publication of summaries of judgments.

According to the proposal received, during 2022 three selected judgments will be broadcast live in each of the six jurisdictions and a total of 18 judgments.


The broadcast will be made in accordance with a judicial decision to be given by the judge or panel of judges hearing the case and subject to the consent of the parties.

It will also determine the start and end dates of the broadcast.

The broadcast will be performed through the judiciary's broadcast channel only, which was purchased as part of the pilot project for the live broadcast of selected Supreme Court hearings, which allows the broadcast to be distributed to external parties to the system, the judiciary's website and social networks. 

The proposal for these broadcasts is based, among other things, on the conclusions of the "Public Discussion in the Technological Age" team, which presented its conclusions to the President of the Supreme Court in July 2021. The team, headed by the President of the Tel Aviv-Yafo District Magistrates, Justice Tzachi Uziel The trial, Judge Yigal Marzel, for the purpose of re-examining aspects of the publicity of the hearing in the light of technological developments and in particular given the limitations imposed by the corona plague.

The team examined, among other things, the issue of the use of technological means and concluded that "the principle of publicity of the hearing in the broadest sense implies to us that there is a need for broader accessibility of legal proceedings to the public."

The team recommended "live broadcasts of readings of judgments and decisions in all instances in proceedings of public interest."

Supreme Court President Justice Esther Hayut said: "The judiciary is constantly exploring ways to keep up to date and innovate in order to provide an efficient, accessible and transparent service to the public. And promote a project to publish abstracts of judgments in accessible language.

"The outbreak of the corona virus, despite the obvious difficulties and shortcomings it has caused, has given rise to a blessed thinking about activities that should contribute to streamlining the service and making it accessible to the public. This is the main goal we set for the judiciary To the citizen and making the system accessible to the public. "
