The station changed Holzkirchen.

In one fell swoop, a new era dawned in 1857.

Now a new turning point could be in the offing: in 2022 it will be clear how the train station is to be transformed into a mobility hub - with shops, parking lots and restaurants.

The outlook for the new year also promises clarity as to whether the people of Holzkirchen want a southern clasp - and where it will then go.

Holzkirchen

- The projects accumulate.

Holzkirchen's mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) wanted to get off to a strong start when he took office in 2020: middle school, relocation of the building yard, municipal housing construction.

Then Corona came - and Schmid wasn't ready to take the brakes because of it.

“We pushed ahead with our projects,” says Schmid.

Organizationally, the pandemic demanded a lot from the administration and especially the schools and daycare centers ("sometimes the nerves are on edge").

Financially, the virus hardly left any marks on the municipal coffers.

"We don't get any Corona state aid either," says Schmid.

The new train station

Community money does not play such a big role in a groundbreaking project for the future of Holzkirchen: large parts of the station area, which is to become a modern mobility hub in the next few years, is owned by Deutsche Bahn (DB).

Together with the DB, the municipality, which also has some properties and has planning sovereignty, drafted the text for a design competition.

“This year we're going to choose the winner,” says Schmid.

He expects nothing less than a "groundbreaking milestone for wooden churches".

Traffic-important for the community: a large parking garage on the loading yard side, which should cover 80 percent of the parking requirement, and a second underpass for pedestrians.

Ländl tunnel

The Ländl residents have waited a long time for this breakthrough: This year the tunnel from Buchenstrasse to the industrial area is finally to be pushed into the railway line.

This underpass makes the place more permeable and creates a connection between the residential areas west of the railway embankment and the workplaces and supermarkets in the industrial area east.

Middle school is moving

The Holzkirchen Middle School is moving this year.

The old building on Baumgartenstrasse will be cleared during the summer holidays.

For at least three years, students and teachers are accommodated in an interim building, which is placed about 200 meters south on a meadow west of Baumgartenstrasse.

“The old building will be demolished in autumn,” says Schmid.

The costs for the entire project are enormous.

The interim school alone comes to 6.8 million euros.

The total costs are estimated at around 30 million euros.

housing

While private investors are busy creating new apartments in Holzkirchen, the municipality is finding it difficult to relieve the market with additional “affordable” apartments.

The focus is still on the five community-owned apartment blocks (63 apartments) on Baumgartenstrasse, which date from the 1950s.

Refurbishment is hardly worth it.

If the old buildings were to give way, the 8000 square meter property would offer a number of opportunities to realize modern and affordable living concepts.

"A feasibility study is in progress," says Schmid, who wants to make progress on the subject in 2022.

Southern clasp

Is the southern clasp coming or not?

The discussion about a southern bypass around Holzkirchen - and possibly also about bypasses for Großhartpenning and Kurzenberg - is picking up momentum again.

It is agreed in the municipal council to formulate a request for advice and to let the citizens decide how the municipality feels about the bypass plans.

This assumes that there are concrete route proposals that are to be voted on.

At the moment there is much to suggest that only a local route is possible.

Schmid assumes that the referendum will take place this year.

“Then we would finally have clarity.” However: the client remains the federal government.

The Südspange is listed as an urgent requirement of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan, but the traffic light coalition in Berlin has announced that it will re-examine all road construction projects.

Local bus

The Holzkirchen local bus will be reorganized from September.

The centerpiece is a ring line that connects the train station with the commercial areas.

The village districts are to be covered in the future by an on-demand system ("on-call bus").

Kita is being expanded

The community is investing around 9.5 million euros in the expansion of the daycare center on Erich-Kästner-Straße, which is operated by Kinderland GmbH.

There will be space for seven additional groups in the extension.

The tender is running.

“We're tackling that this year,” says Schmid.

The turn of the year is an opportunity to look ahead.

What will be possible in 2022 despite the pandemic, what must be deleted?

We asked around in the town halls.
