In this context, the British newspaper, The Guardian, saw in an article by Lawrence H Tribe, professor of law at Harvard University, that the possibility of a coup in the upcoming US elections is much greater now than it was during the era of former US President Donald Trump, noting that the Republicans were “engaged” in undermining the upcoming elections. In the United States in 2024 and their futile attempts to describe the bloody storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6th as a peaceful protest.
The newspaper pointed out that retired American generals warned of the danger of “another coup attempt” in the upcoming elections in the United States if Trump, who intends to run for it, or another demagogue like him loses, according to their expression.
Canadian researcher and academic Thomas Dixon, for his part, warned against the transformation of power in the United States into an extreme right-wing dictatorship, pointing out that some experts already believe that America may slip into an internal war with the increase of partisan and political polarization.
Dixon pointed out that there is a crisis of disintegration in the United States currently, and serious political and social divisions, with the increase in material problems and the constant fear of the middle class about the economic situation and unequal wealth.
Despite the fact that a year has passed since the events of the storming of the Capitol Building, the differences and divisions along the lines of the Republican and Democratic parties over the description of what happened are still continuing. They warn that unless the planners and instigators are held accountable, it will recur and lead to chaos in any future elections.
