Apparently a dog running freely in the forest on the Tegernseer Höhenweg put a fawn in such distress that it fled to the housing estate, fell five meters there and died.

Tegernsee - Andreas Feichtner is a hunter as a hobby and is also a member of the city council.

What he had to experience on New Year's Day makes him more than angry.

At around 4 p.m., he puts the pieces together in retrospect, a dog running freely in the forest on the popular and heavily frequented mountain trail must have scared off a fawn.

Tegernsee: fawn flees from dog - and plunges five meters into the depth

The animal fled through a stream, injured its forelegs and ran in a panic towards the residential area on Klosterwachtstrasse.

There it ran over an overgrown garage roof, where it finally fell five meters into a garden.

The residents called the police, who came with a patrol and informed the hunting tenant.

This in turn brought Andreas Feichtner to the scene of the accident.

"I could only determine the death of the deer," is his bitter balance.

For Feichtner it is clear: “It cannot go on like this.” Three deer hounded to death have been complained of in the vicinity in the past six months.

In one case in mid-December, the fire brigade had to rescue a deer from an abandoned and uncovered pool near Riedersteinstrasse - luckily the animal survived this mishap unharmed.

Free-running dog incites deer to death: "Hunters could shoot him"

Because he knows the situation on the Höhenweg from his own experience, and the number of dogs has increased since Corona, the case is clear for Feichtner: a dog that is not on a leash must have chased the animal.

His urgent demand is therefore: "Dogs must be on a leash in the forest." Hunters even have the right to shoot a dog that is clearly chasing game, says Feichtner and refers to the Bavarian Hunting Act.

"Of course, a hunter would never do that, because the trouble would be too big," says Johanna Ecker-Schotte, chairwoman of the Tegernseer Tal animal protection association.

However, she fully supports Feichtner's demand for leash duty.

“Dogs absolutely belong on a leash when they are not available.

And that is 90 percent of all dogs, ”says Ecker-Schotte, with a view to the hunting instinct of the four-legged friends.

Basically, dogs running around cause a lot of stress for game.

Therefore, they also demand a leash obligation.

It makes sense to put up signs.

This is also the opinion of Mayor Johannes Hagn, who was visited by Andreas Feichtner in the town hall immediately after the incident.

He himself speaks regularly to dog owners and asks them to put their animals on a leash, reports Hagn and announces that signs should now underpin the words.

"We will definitely buy some and put them up in the parking lots," assures Hagn.

How many, that is still open.
