Calm returned to the Kazakh capital, Nur-Sultan, today, with the authorities imposing a security cordon near the presidential palace and the governorate building, after protests against the rise in gas prices in the country.
And Sputnik agency reported that the authorities prevented the passage of vehicles in the streets surrounding the governorate building, and the current situation is stable and calm.
In turn, CTS, the company responsible for the public transport sector, stated that public transport will start operating normally tomorrow morning in the event that no emergency occurs.
President Kassym-Jimart Tokayev imposed a state of emergency and a curfew in the areas of Almata, Nur-Sultan and Mangstau until January 19.
Earlier today, President Tokayev accepted the resignation of the government headed by Askar Mamin and appointed First Deputy Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov as acting prime minister, while calling in a speech yesterday to the people not to give in to internal and external provocations amid protests against the rise in gas prices.
