The Immigration Department announced today (5th) that holders of old smart ID cards born in 1983, 1984, 1987 or 1988 must be between January 19 (Wednesday) and April 2 (Saturday) , Bring your ID card and go to any smart ID card replacement center in person to go through the procedures for new smart ID card replacement.


The "Hong Kong Citizens Renewal Identity Card Scheme" (Identity Replacement Scheme) targets all citizens of Hong Kong, regardless of whether they are permanent residents or non-permanent residents who are permitted to work, invest, stay or study in Hong Kong, must be within the specified period Go to the renewal center to go through the renewal procedures.

The service hours of each renewal center are from 8 am to 10 pm from Monday to Saturday (except public holidays).

In order to reduce crowds, the Immigration Department urges applicants to use the Immigration Department’s mobile application, log on to the website or call the 24-hour telephone appointment service hotline 2121 1234 to make an appointment for renewal procedures.

Applicants are also urged to fill in the form in advance when using the mobile application or online booking.

The Immigration Department has launched a caring arrangement in this renewal program. Each eligible renewal person can bring up to two relatives and friends aged 65 or above, and up to two people with disabilities to the renewal center.

Holders of the old smart ID card born in 1983, 1984, 1987 or 1988 must apply for a new smart ID card between January 19 (Wednesday) and April 2 (Saturday).

As for the old smart ID card holders born in 1980, 1981 or 1982, their specified renewal period will end on January 18 (Tuesday). Those who have not yet completed the renewal procedures should make an appointment as soon as possible.

Eligible Hong Kong citizens who are not in Hong Kong within the renewal period can complete the renewal procedures within 30 days after returning to Hong Kong.
