Corona outbreak in Antarctica: isolated researchers infected at polar station

The coronavirus cannot be stopped by national borders, now numerous researchers have become infected at a polar station in Antarctica.
Antarctica - The corona virus has been causing restrictions in Germany and many parts of the world for two years, the RKI is now slowly but surely reporting increasing numbers of infections again after the holidays.
A corona outbreak in Antarctica shows that the virus does not stop at remote parts of the world.
Numerous researchers at a polar station have become infected with corona.

, among others, a total of 25 people are said to be staying at the polar station in Antarctica.
The corona virus is said to have already been detected in around two thirds of them.
The researchers come from Belgium, they are all fully vaccinated.
As the Belgian newspaper further reports, all researchers are said to have been tested for the corona virus before the trip.
At this point in time, all those involved had been tested negatively.
However, the crew entered via South Africa, where the researchers are said to have been in temporary quarantine for around ten days.
It is not yet known whether the researchers were infected with the new Corona variant Omikron, which was initially detected in South Africa.

further reports, the virus is said to have been detected in one of the Belgian researchers only a week later.
Although the person was immediately isolated, the outbreak in the polar station could no longer be prevented.
The experts will now spend the next few days in quarantine on the station in Antarctica, but they have two doctors with them.
As the

reports, all infected people should experience a slight course, even work on the polar station will not be affected by the corona outbreak.
