Al-Hasakah-SANA

The area planted with wheat and barley crops in Al-Hasakah Governorate in rainfed and irrigated lands reached 436 thousand hectares distributed in various areas of agricultural stability.

With the approaching date of the end of planting the two strategic crops, which will continue over the next few days, the percentage of implementation of wheat and barley cultivation for rainfed areas is still below the plan due to the lack of rainfall during the current season and the farmers’ fears of the demand for agriculture and the recurrence of the dry season during the previous season and incurring financial losses.

The head of the Plant Production Department in the Directorate of Agriculture, Eng. Jalal Bilal, said in a statement to SANA Economic Bulletin that there is still plenty of time for farmers who want to plant the two crops, which is associated with an improvement in the reality of rainfall during the remaining few time period, especially for the first and second agricultural stability areas, indicating that the governorate was effectively affected. Rainy weather today and tomorrow will contribute to improving the cultivation of rainfed areas for the two strategic crops.

Engineer Bilal indicated that the cultivated area by farmers was distributed to 80,400 hectares of irrigated wheat, at a rate of implementation of 73 percent of the planned area, and 193,350 hectares of rain-fed wheat, at a rate of 44 percent. Execution of 38 percent.

With regard to the growth of wheat and barley, Eng. Bilal explained that the irrigated areas planted at an early age are in the process of growth and weeds are above the ground, while the rain-fed areas still need rain for the growth of seeds and rooting.

For their part, the farmers of the governorate, including Saleh Al-Jamou and Abdullah Abdul Rahman, hope for an improvement in the reality of rainfall in the coming period to continue cultivating the lands with crops of wheat and barley, especially after preparing and cultivating their lands and securing the necessary seeds for agriculture, all of which is related to rainfall during the coming period. Good and growing.
