(CNN) -

The 2022 Golden Globes will take place, but will not be available to the public.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) will host a ceremony on Sunday, January 9 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the traditional venue for the event, but it will not be televised, there will be no audience, and no red carpet.

Organizers attributed the reduced event plans to the current rise in covid-19.

"Health and safety remain a priority for the HFPA. There will be no hearing on January 9 and the following precautions are being taken for selected members and beneficiaries who will be in the room: Immunization tests and booster shots, along with with a negative PCR test within 48 hours, it is required to enter; all guests must wear a mask and must keep physical distance at all times while inside the ballroom; there will be no red carpet, "said the HFPA in a released Tuesday.

NBC announced last year that it would not air this year's Golden Globes, following controversy over the lack of diversity among HFPA members and other ethical issues related to financial benefits.

The Golden Globes will have "radical changes"

The HFPA added in its statement Tuesday that there have been "radical changes" in the organization.

"Over the past eight months, the HFPA has completely overhauled its bylaws, implementing radical top-down changes that address ethics and code of conduct, diversity, equity and inclusion, governance, membership, and more. Recently , HFPA has admitted its largest and most diverse class to date of 21 new members, all of whom are first-time Golden Globe voters, "the statement read.

Although the studios did not officially submit titles for consideration, nominations for the 79th Annual Golden Globes Awards were announced in December.

"The Power of the Dog" and "Belfast" topped movie nominations, while HBO's "Succession" garnered the most nominations for a television series with five.

Apple's "Ted Lasso" and "The Morning Show" have four nominations each.
