Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko confirmed that the participation and the level at which NATO will be represented at the meeting of the (Russia-NATO) Council on January 12th will be an indication of its readiness to hold serious talks.
"Since we are talking about military security issues, we proceed from the assumption that senior NATO military personnel will participate in this meeting... This will be an indication that they are ready for a really serious conversation such as working on all important aspects of military security in Europe," Grushko said in a statement to Sputnik.
"Our delegation will be formed taking into account the solution to this problem," he added, stressing Russia's readiness to hold substantive and practical talks with NATO on security issues.
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister indicated that the agenda of the meeting of the (Russia-NATO) Council, which will be held on January 12, has not yet been thoroughly discussed, explaining that "due to the actions of the alliance, there is no longer any structure capable of dealing with this matter."
"In fact, after the unfriendly steps taken by NATO towards the Russian diplomatic presence in Brussels, we no longer have any accredited representative to the alliance and there are no representatives for us in the Russia-NATO Council," Grushko added.
Relations between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization led by the United States have recently been tense due to the increase in the military presence near the Russian borders under the pretext of protecting Ukraine from an alleged Russian threat, which Moscow considers a violation of the basic document of relations between the two sides.
