Health Minister Karl Lauterbach calls for new corona measures, including the introduction of a general vaccination requirement.

A proposal is already in progress.

Berlin - Before the corona summit of the federal and state governments * on Friday (January 7th, 2022), Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach * speaks out in favor of new measures in the pandemic.

In addition to shortened quarantine times, he also wants to enforce tougher contact restrictions.

Such measures are necessary "to counter the heavy wave that is coming our way," he told the editorial network Germany.

The SPD politician * is also striving for the rapid introduction of a general corona vaccination requirement * without the establishment of a vaccination register.

As a member of the Bundestag *, he is working on a proposal for a general vaccination requirement for over 18-year-olds.

"The vaccination must come quickly," demanded the minister.

“We cannot wait for compulsory vaccination to become superfluous because we have a very high level of contamination among the population.

Omikron as a dirty vaccination is not an alternative to compulsory vaccination, ”emphasized Lauterbach and referred to the new virus variant.

"That would be very dangerous."

The proposal on compulsory vaccination "should be unbureaucratic and preferably manage without a vaccination register".

There shouldn't be any new reporting structures, he said.

And: "If the pandemic turns into an endemic situation, the compulsory vaccination would also have expired." However, that depends on the development of the virus and the success of the vaccination campaign.

He also considers a fourth corona vaccination to be "very likely".

Last year, the Bundestag decided to make corona vaccination compulsory for the staff of facilities in which people at risk from Covid-19 are cared for, treated or cared for.

The obligation, which is essentially limited to healthcare and long-term care, comes into force in mid-March.

General corona vaccination: FDP disagree - Lindner was open

There is also intense discussion about a general compulsory corona vaccination for the whole or large parts of the population.

To this end, there should be motions in the Bundestag, on which the MPs should vote according to conviction, not according to parliamentary group discipline.

Concrete drafts are not yet available.

From the ranks of the FDP * there is already a draft to reject a general vaccination against corona.

Statements by its chairman Christian Lindner * show that there is disagreement within the party.

"We have to open up for compulsory vaccination," he said in December on Bild-TV.

"I say openly that my direction is also that of a mandatory vaccination." This is "a sharp sword", but in his opinion "proportionate".

There are already complaints before the Federal Constitutional Court against the facility-related vaccination requirement.
