No more free choice of school for grammar schools

“Are you going to Effner or Taschner?” That was the big question for many years of all fourth graders in the city and district of Dachau who wanted to go to high school.

For some years now, the Markt Indersdorf high school has also been an alternative. 

So far, the decision as to which grammar school should be rests with the children and their parents. This freedom of choice is now over for the time being. As of the coming school year, the district of Dachau will restrict freedom of choice when choosing a school. In a letter to the parents of the current fourth grade, subject area 13 of the district office justifies the "management of the streams of high school students" due to the increased space requirements due to the reintroduction of the nine-year high school, the simultaneous opening of two high schools in Karlsfeld and Röhrmoos from the school year 2025/26. The District Office has issued the following requirements: Students from the towns of Altomünster, Erdweg, Markt Indersdorf, Weichs, Hilgertshausen-Tandern, Haimhausen, Röhrmoos and Petershausen are only allowed to attend the Markt Indersdorf grammar school from the coming school year.This should take up the forerunner classes of the planned high school in Röhrmoos.

The fourth graders from Bergkirchen, Hebertshausen, Odelzhausen and Schwabhausen can choose between the Josef-Effner-Gymasium Dachau (JEG) and the Indersdorfer Gymnasium. Students from Dachau can also choose between the Ignaz-Taschner-Gymnasium (ITG) and the Joseph-Effner-Gymnasium. In the ITG in particular, the spatial situation is difficult due to the current seven fifth grades. Only the Effner Gymnasium is planned for Karlsfeld students, as this is where the precursor classes for the new Karlsfeld Gymnasium will be located. Traditionally, many Karlsfelders currently visit the ITG, as they can get there comfortably by S-Bahn. Although it will be some time before the school year changes, there is already criticism from parents. “I was at the ITG myself and always felt comfortable there! That is why I would have likedthat my son is going there! “, says a Bergkirchen mother of the DACHAUER RUNDSCHAU.

District Administrator Stefan Löwl asks for understanding: “We will all have to bite our teeth now, in addition to the school families, children, parents and the administration too.

For the school year 2025/26, the move to a state-of-the-art school building with optimal learning conditions is due ”, promised Löwl.

Siblings are excluded from the rule.

They can choose the same school that their brothers and sisters attend.
