Nuremberg Airport wants to offer its passengers travel by air taxi in a few years.

The Lillium company is already working on the implementation.

Nuremberg - will citizens soon be able to travel by air taxi from Nuremberg * to other cities?

As the BR reports, numerous companies are working on the implementation of the new means of transport.

Traffic jams on motorways should be a thing of the past.

Albrecht Dürer Airport * is very impressed with the innovation and, according to the report, describes it as a new start for a better future.

Due to the corona pandemic, there has been little operation at the airport in the past two years.

Before the crisis, around four million passengers traveled from Nuremberg to the big wide world every year.

In 2020 and 2021 there were only about one million each.

Nuremberg Airport: New aircraft should attract more passengers

A so-called Vertiport should attract more people again in the future.

According to the BR, the new facility, which is similar to a helicopter take-off and landing area, is to be built right next to the terminals, where there is currently an event hall.

The company Lilium from Weßling near Munich * wants to use the space for the new aircraft.

She has been working on the new means of transport for six years.

The streamlined models will then take passengers from Nuremberg to Munich or Stuttgart.

It is planned that the shuttle traffic will completely replace the scheduled flights.

Six passengers in an air taxi

Six passengers and a pilot should fit into an air taxi, it said.

The new means of transport can travel at 280 kilometers per hour.

It is operated with batteries.

However, the charging capacity would still be missing at Nuremberg Airport.

How the flying taxis are integrated into normal air traffic has not yet been clarified, according to the BR.

In terms of price, the trip with the air taxis should be affordable.

The journey from Nuremberg to Munich should not be more expensive than a 1st class train ticket, the BR continues.

Lilium reckons that air taxis will be able to bring passengers from A to B by 2025 or 2026.
