The Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, announced today (5th) afternoon that Hong Kong’s anti-epidemic measures will be tightened and the Hong Kong Cycling Festival originally scheduled to be held on January 16 will be cancelled.
The Omicron variant virus appeared in a community invisible transmission chain, and the epidemic worsened rapidly. The government held a press conference in the afternoon to announce the tightening of a number of epidemic prevention measures, including the cancellation of large-scale events and avoiding crowds. Chief Executive Carrie Lam mentioned that the cancelled events include the Hong Kong Cycling Festival.
The Hong Kong Cycling Festival in 2022 was originally scheduled to be held on January 16 (Sunday). The event will have 26km and 48km groups. For the first time, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be used as the race route, with a capacity of 3,000 people.
Participants depart from the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge towards Zhuhai and Macau, pass through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Link Road and the Guanjingshan Tunnel, turn back in front of the boundary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and then return to the Hong Kong Port along the original road to end the ride .
In the second half of last year, many major sports events were postponed or cancelled due to the epidemic, including Hong Kong Street Horse 2021, Oxfam Trailwalker and HK100, while Victoria Harbour Swimming and Hong Kong Marathon were allowed to be held.
