The Minister of Health of Panama, Dr. Luis Francisco Sucre, announced that this Friday the pediatric vaccination against covid-19 will begin in the country, which will be aimed at infants between 5 and 11 years old.

However, it was clarified that the first child population to receive immunization will be that of minors suffering from chronic diseases.

Last Sunday 60,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines arrived in Panama, after President Laurentino Cortizo announced an agreement between Pfizer Belgium and Panama Customs.

According to the president, from January 22, 2021 to date, "88.2% of those who died from covid-19 did not have the complete vaccination scheme, that is, the two doses had not been applied."

The epidemiological report of the Ministry of Health on Tuesday indicates that, since the pandemic began, Panama has counted 503,407 confirmed infections, resulting in 7,445 deaths.

In addition, there are 225 hospitalized patients, among whom 30 are in intensive care.

So far the country registers 18,763 active cases.
