Poland's President Andrzej Duda has tested positive for the corona virus.
This was announced by the Polish state news agency PAP, citing a confidante.
Accordingly, Duda is in domestic isolation.
He is doing well and is under medical observation, said his advisor Pawel Szrot on Twitter.
Duda had several infected people in his immediate vicinity and therefore tested himself.
49-year-old Duda has been head of state in Poland since 2015.
In October 2020 he was infected with Corona once.
In Poland, as in many other European countries, the number of new infections is increasing due to the Omikron variant.
However, the government decided on Tuesday not to tighten the corona measures any further.
Omikron is responsible for a good 2.5 percent of infections in the country, but experts assume that it will be the dominant variant by the end of January.
70 percent of the intensive care beds in the country are occupied, and the situation would worsen if the omicron spread further.
