Chief Executive Carrie Lam Zhengyue-e visited Beijing last month to report on her duties and met with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council.
Xi Jinping mentioned at the time that Carrie Lam held elections for the Election Committee and Legislative Council elections. "The Central Committee fully recognizes your work."
Jasper Tsang, chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of the Founding Party and former chairman of the Legislative Council, stated that when Lam Cheng was reporting on duty, the national leader did not talk about the political achievements of the northern metropolitan area and the Lam Cheng government in the past four years. The National Security Law and the improvement of the electoral system have raised doubts about Lam Cheng's chances of re-election. "If the central government supports the long-term plan proposed by Lin Tai, should it support her for one more term (the chief executive) before it can be implemented?"
Jasper Tsang: Leaders are not sure of Lam Cheng's political achievements
According to Jasper Tsang in the "Insight into the Masters" video column, Carrie Lam’s latest "Policy Address" summarized more than 900 policies proposed by the SAR government over the past four years, 96% of which have been completed or implemented in order. "It is reasonable for national leaders to affirm the SAR government. Work, should this be mentioned? It is worthy of affirmation."
He continued that the "Policy Address" actively cooperated with the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including proposing a vision for the northern metropolitan area. However, the response of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office and the Liaison Office was relatively flat, which is a little strange.
He said that "Lantau Tomorrow" and the northern metropolitan area are both policies to promote Hong Kong's integration into the overall development of the country. The reorganization of the government structure is not something that can be accomplished during this term. Uncertainty about what the (government) has done in the past four years, only two things that the central government has done: the national security law and the improvement of the electoral system, which raises doubts about the possibility of (the central government) supporting her (Lam Cheng) for re-election."
Jasper Tsang also pointed out that the "no information" of the national leader's speech seems to be another strong message. Therefore, after Lam Cheng's report on office, some people are bearish on the market for her re-election.
