To hell with it: Are the goblins in Harry Potter an antisemitic figure? | Israel today

In the shadow of the union marking 20 years since Harry Potter's resurrection would be legitimate - are the ugly creatures, big-nosed rulers who control all the money in the world - an antisemitic stereotype • John Stewart and many other surfers are convinced so,

Have you ever thought about the fact that it is possible that the goblins, the bank guards in the Harry Potter series, both in their description in the books and in their presentation in the movies, were created with distinctly antisemitic symbols and stereotypes?

Long noses, grumpy temperament, sophistication and especially control of all the money in the world have proven over the years to viewers and readers around the world that this is at least a problematic reference.

This past weekend many Muggles rejoiced at the sight of the special union broadcast of the "Harry Potter" stars that aired on HBO Max.

But the one who has received a little less refinement from the exciting union is the brain that created the wondrous world of Harry Potter and his friends - the writer JK Rowling, due to whether the mother created the goblins as a character infected with distinctly antisemitic stereotypes.

With the rise of the Union chapter, the burning question arose again as to why goblins are portrayed as ugly, short, big-nosed creatures with the warning that they are sophisticated and untrustworthy - in the way Jews have been portrayed throughout history.

"Why did you create them with curved noses," tweeted a surfer wondering to Rowling.

"The monsters with the curved noses and the obsession with money in Harry Potter are bankers," added another surfer.

Other sharp-eyed surfers noted that on the floor of the bank in the first film, a Star of David can be clearly seen.

One of the significant figures who brought up the subject again this week was the Jewish actor and satirist John Stewart, who addressed the issue in a podcast.

"It is clear that the goblins who run the bank are antisemitic figures but people have refused to see it," he said.

Stuart said he had previously shown people pictures from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and their immediate reaction was that it was a character from Harry Potter.

"You're trying to explain to them that the picture is taken from an antisemitic document. Rowling has created a magical world where people ride dragons and there are magical train stations, and who will run the bank 'Jews,'" he mocked.
