The United Nations Office of Humanitarian Affairs has warned that drought threatens the food security of millions of people in Ethiopia.
In a report published on its website, the office said that more than 6 million people affected by drought in eastern and southern Ethiopia will need urgent assistance this year, as the drought is devastatingly affecting the lives and livelihoods of agro-pastoral communities living in the area after the level of rains fell for the third year on straight.
According to the Office of Disaster Risk Management in the Somali region of Ethiopia, large harvest losses have been reported in the Fafan and Seti regions, and the two regions are expected to record major losses in maize and wheat crops.
