If they agree on the substance, the French reject the way in which the president expressed himself during an interview with Le
Parisien
, where he revealed that he wanted to "
continue to piss off
" unvaccinated people.
According to an Odoxa-Backbone Consulting poll for
Le Figaro
, 59% of those questioned share the president's desire to put pressure on French people who are reluctant to vaccinate.

Presidential 2022: where are the candidates in the polls?
Even though they are a clear majority to be in favor of the introduction of the vaccine pass (66%), the French severely judge the exit of the President of the Republic.
Paraphrasing the title of a book on François Hollande, they estimate at 65% "
that a president should not say that
".
In addition, 60% of those questioned consider "
that he was wrong to make these remarks because he divides the French instead of bringing them together
" and 70% even think that he should have "
sought to convince rather than to coerce
".

Less than a hundred days before the presidential election, Emmanuel Macron's statement also tarnishes his image.
He is considered “
brutal
” by a majority of French people (59%) and perceived as less “
close to people
” (74%).
With this sentence, his overall popularity as head of state deteriorates by 5 points (39% against 44% last month).
2 in 3 French people do not find it convincing
The French now believe that Emmanuel Macron is neither “
sympathetic
” (60%), nor even “
competent
” (54%).
A majority also believe that he is not telling them the truth (61%).
The shocking language of the Head of State therefore does not seem to bear fruit.
Only one in two French people (50%) find it "
clear
", whereas they were 56% during his last intervention in December.
Above all, nearly two out of three French people (63%) do not consider it “
convincing
”.

It is another statement of the president in his interview with the Parisian which aroused the most reservations, although having less triggered the controversy. Emmanuel Macron has indeed declared that an “
irresponsible person is no longer a citizen
”. Only a narrow majority of French people (50%) say they “
agree
” with this statement, against 48% who “
disagree
”. Only the Walkers (79%) and Republicans (67%) agree with the head of state. On the other hand, the sympathizers of the left (52% of the voters of rebellious France and 51% of those of the PS), like those of the National Rally (58%), are a majority to think that it was wrong.
