Origin

The drawing of a cat very much like an Abyssinian cat is also present on many Egyptian tombs dating from the time of the pharaohs.

It was in 1868 that Sir Robert Napier introduced the breed to Europe, returning from an expedition with a cat named Zula.

The breed is then crossed with British Shorthair cats by British breeders.
