The Collective Security Treaty Organization has announced the start of sending peacekeepers to Kazakhstan to help protect vital installations and restore security.
The organization said in a statement published on its website today: “In accordance with the decision of the collective Security Council of the organization, collective peacekeeping forces were sent to the Republic of Kazakhstan for a limited period with the aim of helping to protect important government and military installations and assisting law enforcement forces in controlling the situation and restoring public order and stability.”
The organization explained that the peacekeeping forces include soldiers from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, noting that the Russian part of the forces is currently being transferred to the territory of Kazakhstan by military transport aircraft of the Russian Air Force.
Yesterday, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, called on the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to help his country in confronting the riots and sabotage led by "terrorist gangs trained abroad", which resulted in the killing of 8 security forces and the army and the wounding of hundreds.
