Geneva-Sana

Today, the World Health Organization announced that it had recorded more than 2.6 million new infections with the Corona virus in the world, which represents a new daily record.

Reuters quoted the organization as saying in a report that the number of recorded infections with the Corona virus around the world rose during the past 24 hours by 2618,130 cases, bringing the general outcome to 296496809 cases.

The report indicated that the number of deaths caused by the virus increased by 8,168, bringing the number of victims to 5,462,631.

In a related context, the organization warned of the danger of the mutated Omicron to the lives of many infected people around the world, noting that it was wrong to describe it as “mild.”

The Director-General of the Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said in a press conference that "the record numbers of infections with the new mutation of (Covid 19) are rapidly transmitting and spreading, which means that hospitals are suffering from severe pressure."

He added, "It seems that the omicron is actually less dangerous compared to the delta mutant, especially in vaccinated people, but this does not mean that it should be classified as mild," noting that "the omicron, like other previous mutant, leads to people entering hospitals and killing the injured."

And the World Health Organization reported earlier that the rate of infections with the emerging coronavirus around the world rose during the past seven days by 71 percent.
