Russia and its allies announced Thursday, January 6, the dispatch of the first contingent of peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan, a country plagued by chaotic riots that killed dozens of people.

A collective peacekeeping force from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has been sent to Kazakhstan for a limited period in order to stabilize and normalize the situation,
" the military alliance said in a statement released on Telegram by Russian diplomacy spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
