On Wednesday, the neighboring territory of Hong Kong announced that it was banning from Saturday the arrival of travelers by plane from eight countries.

Macau health authorities on Wednesday detected three asymptomatic cases of the coronavirus in people arriving from the United Kingdom and the Philippines.

Like mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao practice a “zero Covid” strategy consisting of a long quarantine for anyone entering their territory and a draconian policy of isolating patients and their contacts.

Macau prohibits non-residents from entering the city, while residents returning from overseas must undergo a quarantine of at least 21 days, as in Hong Kong.

The former Portuguese colony has recorded a total of 79 cases of coronavirus contamination since the start of the pandemic, and has not counted any deaths.
