Until January 14th, there is a tough lockdown in the Netherlands.

The strict measures taken in the fight against the corona pandemic have sparked protests in the country.

Now the prominent politician Sigrid Kaag has been targeted by opponents of the corona policy.

The Dutch police arrested a man who threatened Kaag with a burning torch in front of her private home.

This was announced by the police in The Hague.

The protest action could be seen live on the Internet

The man protested loudly against Corona measures with a group of people in front of the house of the future finance minister in The Hague on Wednesday evening.

The protest action could be seen live on social networks.

The police recognized him from the footage and then arrested him.

The left-liberal politician, who is to be sworn in as minister on Monday, is currently in quarantine at home.

She filed a complaint.

Politicians from many parties reacted indignantly and with disgust to the incident.

According to media reports, the suspect had previously been arrested for threatening the Minister of Health.

It is a 29 year old well-known activist against the Corona measures from Amsterdam.

Also threats against Prime Minister Rutte and journalists

A 52-year-old man had previously been arrested in Duizel in the south of the country on suspicion of having repeatedly threatened Prime Minister Mark Rutte with death.

Dutch politicians have been threatened regularly since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the prosecutor.

Journalists are also increasingly the target of threats.

Last year they reported more than twice as many incidents as in the previous year.

This also included 73 physical acts of violence, said the reporting office, which was set up jointly by the union, public prosecutor and the association of editors-in-chief.
