An Italian mob boss who had been a fugitive for 20 years was captured in a Spanish city after police recognized him in a photo on the Google Street View tool.
The murderer Gioacchino Gammino, 61,
one of the most wanted
in his country, was arrested on December 17, 2021 in Galapagar, a town near Madrid, where he had opened the restaurant La Cocina de Manu (the fictitious name that began to use since it arrived in Spain), as reported by the British newspaper The Guardian.
Gammino also got married and ran a fruit and vegetable store in Galapagar.
The police found the fugitive thanks to the Google tool.

The restaurant and the store are now closed, but in the Google Street View tool - which is accessed through Google Maps - there was a reference image of two men chatting outside the greengrocer called El Huerto de Manu.
Upon seeing her, the police thought that
one of the two men looked like Gaminno.
His identity, however, was only confirmed when they compared the image with another that they found on Facebook on the page of La Cocina de Manu, in which the fugitive appeared in his white chef's suit.

was the key to identifying him.
Francesco Lo Voi, a Palermo prosecutor, led the investigation and confirmed the capture.
"It is not that we spend all day on Google Maps to find fugitives," he told the aforementioned medium.
And he added: “There were many previous and long investigations, which led us to Spain.
We were on a good path ”.
When arrested, Gammino wondered in surprise, "How did they find me?
I haven't even spoken to my family
in 10 years."

Gammino, who belonged to a mafia from Agrigento, in Silicia, was arrested for the first time in 1984. The second time he was caught was in Barcelona, Spain, in 1998. The last time was in 2002, in Rome, where he managed to escape from the Rebibbia jail
during the uproar over the filming of a movie
at the site.
