Stormy debate over the Electricity Law: Bennett clashed with a Knesset member from the opposition (Photo: Knesset Channel)

In the face of the sense of uncertainty that surrounds us all, young and old, children as teenagers, the expectation rises from the state leadership and elected officials - that we will have a beacon, a directed light in the stormy sea, in every sense. Corona epidemic persists and intensifies; Insulation; Employment-economic insecurity that sometimes borders on the existence and livelihood anxiety; Cost of living and price increases in every field; Reducing to zero the cultural life that is so important to the psyche; Sky closes and opens; A confused education system and difficulties of returning to routine - if it even exists at all - and priest and priestess.

However, precisely at this complex hour, the public is watching its elected representatives - those who are meant to lead it, to direct it, and yes! To serve as an example for him in the examination of "From me you will see and thus you will do", observes and does not believe: Where is the leadership? Where is the personal example?

One MK insults a Supreme Court justice and later calls the Knesset Speaker a rag;

Deputy Minister celebrates at New Year's Eve party contrary to instructions;

And if that's not enough - yesterday we won a violent and frightening demonstration of hatred in a debate on the Electricity Law that seems to be a customer from a battlefield between street gangs and not from the House of Representatives of the "Chosen People".

What can we expect from our children and teenagers, when in front of all of us there is an all-out war, some members of the Knesset are only competing with each other who will use more blatant language, who will do the next ugly exercise to his opponent, who will send another and win, unfortunately, in a minute of broadcast, while A piece of rating and while clicking Like.

Our chosen ones - "Calm down"! Is this the example you give to the general public, is this the form of behavior and what are the values by which you would like to educate future generations? Are you not afraid that the rage and poor language will seep into the younger generation and constitute a norm of behavior in their eyes? After all, in every "shaming" event or boycott that happens at school or on Facebook, those Knesset members are the first to shout and condemn phenomena at these angles, are called upon to protect the victim and are quick to explain how horrible and unacceptable it is. In the blink of an eye, however, those protective and sensitive figures put on the battle uniforms of the Knesset of Israel, and attack again with harsh words and behavior that does not respect their status, and especially not the public that chose to represent them.

Leadership is tested mostly in times of crisis or extraordinary challenge. This is the real test of anyone who is a leader or partner in leadership. Leading and taking responsibility for its results are the bread and butter of any leadership whatsoever, certainly of elected officials in a democratic state. It is known that you are engaged in the craft and believe in your important work for the state and the public, only please, you will understand and put into practice the essence of the role of leaders, leaders. Hold back, think twice before the next attack, before the insult or injury to another or the other. Focus and invest all of you in doing things for the public. Remember, you are elected by the public, but in the same breath you are also serving the same public that elected you for it.

I am not speaking from an optimal or theoretical conception of leadership, but from the life experience of leadership in security and civil society organizations, in routine and in times of crisis, in the examination of "handsome demands - handsome fulfills". You can, it's just a matter of choice and true leadership.
