Rabbi Uri Blewi, one of the leaders of Naturi Karta, passed away today (Thursday) at the age of 95. Blewi, a resident of Jerusalem, was the son of Amram, the first leader of the extremist faction, and led uncompromising struggles against Zionism and the State of Israel.
Until four decades ago, Blau belonged to the main group of Naturi Karta, a relatively small extremist faction based in Mea Shearim and also has branches in Israel in Beit Shemesh, which is a jealous opposition even to the separatist and anti-Zionist "ultra-Orthodox community".

He then joined another faction of the group, less jealous, among other things around a debate over the proper treatment of Palestinian terrorist organizations and meetings with leaders of enemy states like Iran.
Israel Meir Hirsch, one of the people of Naturi Karta, paid tribute to him in a conversation with Walla!
He said that "he was the dominant figure in the struggles his father waged over the Sabbath and the sanctity of Jerusalem. He sat in his life in detention for long periods."
In one case, in 1958, Blewi and his father were sentenced to four months in prison for an illegal fight against a swimming pool in Jerusalem for religious reasons.
"He was the 'going out to war,'" Hirsch adds.
"In recent years, he has carried out a day of fasting on Independence Day with Torah lessons in the Mea Shearim neighborhood against Zionism and the state."
The obituary published ahead of his funeral this afternoon states that he was "a man of many wars for him in putting religion and the Holy Torah on a pedestal against the atonement rule."
