Update from January 5, 3:47 p.m.:
The Omikron variant is on the rise.
In South Africa and the USA, the number of infected children in hospitals has also increased significantly.
Prof. Johannes Huebner, infectiologist and pediatrician at the Hauner Children's Hospital of the LMU Munich, gives the all-clear.
He is in regular contact with doctors from abroad.
He told
Antenne Bayern
: “When the number of infections increases, the number of infections in children also increases, of course.
But the fact that we are seeing more and more difficult courses is not the case.
Children are often taken in with, but not because of, Covid. "
Severe corona courses are still the exception in children, as are long-term consequences after an infection, as Huebner further told the radio station. “We have a Long Covid outpatient clinic with us. We have looked after around 15 children since June. ”The doctor believes that the corona vaccination for five to eleven year olds is primarily important for previously ill children. “In my opinion, vaccination is not of great importance in protecting children from illness or severe disease. Children also do not play a decisive role in the overall course of the pandemic. It is much more important that we vaccinate the risk group from the age of 60. ” In an interview with
Antenne Bayern
, Hübner sees the obligation to provide evidence of the test, which will apply in Bavarian day-care centers from January 10th
critical: “There are a lot of problems there, for example the sensitivity of the tests. They also have to be carried out competently, which is often not guaranteed. But I also see that teaching and childcare are probably not politically enforceable any other way at the moment. And if those are the conditions, then it's the lesser of two evils. The bigger the children are, the more useful it is. In the upper secondary school it makes sense, in my opinion less in elementary school and daycare. "
Update from January 5, 1:49 p.m.:
The vaccination rate in Bavaria is 70.3 percent today, Wednesday.
There are large regional differences in the Free State itself.
Central Franconia is Bavaria's vaccination master with 73.6 percent, followed by Lower Franconia (73 percent) and Upper Franconia (72.7 percent).
One region is currently catching up a lot.
Schwaben comes in last (65.8 percent).
Söder in front of the Bund-Länder-Round with a clear demand - the police prepare for further "walks"
First report from January 5th, 12:53 p.m .:
Munich - Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder expects an expert recommendation before the federal-state meeting on Friday (January 7th).
"If there is a council of experts, it has to give a recommendation as to whether something needs to be changed and what," said the CSU boss at a press conference in Munich on Wednesday.
One must approach such decisions with reason.
Among other things, there is currently a lot of discussion about new quarantine rules, booster vaccinations and contact restrictions.
After a scientific recommendation, Söder would like a proposal from the traffic light government.
"But it has to be understandable," added Söder.
"Comprehensible for everyone," he also named as a criterion.
"Not a bureaucracy monster."
Bavarian police prepare for unannounced corona demos
Meanwhile, the Bavarian police in numerous municipalities are preparing for unannounced "walks" and meetings of opponents of the Corona measures.
In Munich alone, around 1000 officials are said to be on duty on Wednesday evening, according to police.
They get support from the federal police, who want to increase their presence at the main train station and at S-Bahn stations.
Not only in the state capital, but also in other Bavarian cities and communities, opponents of the Corona measures called for so-called walks.
However, many cities have not banned stationary rallies and threatened participants in undeclared demonstrations with fines.
