Saar: These are the six other candidates for the position of Spokesman | Israel Today

The Minister of Justice, Gideon Saar, announced today (Thursday) the addition of six candidates for the position of Spokesman, including Adv. Ofer Bartel, Adv. Eli Wiltsik, Adv. Hiel Kosher, Adv. Yair Asael, Adv. Ofer Tzur and the Judge Yifat Sheetrit Hadad.

The six will be added to the 9 names that were already published yesterday.

The list of candidates is Tel Aviv District Court Judge Michal Agmon-Gonen, Defense Department Attorney, Adv. Itai Ofir, Dean of the Bar Ilan University School of Advanced Studies and Constitutional and Criminal Law Specialist Professor Ariel Bendor, Head of the Legal Department at the Ecclesiastical D Forum Rabbi Aviad Bakshio, former Knesset Spokesman Adv. Il Yinon, Rector of the Hebrew University, Professor Barak Medina.

The Minister of Justice, Gideon Saar, nominated three other candidates, including the Tel Aviv District Attorney - former citizen Adv. Gali Bahrav-Myara, the Deputy Attorney General for Public-Constitutional Law, Adv. Leumi Dr. Roi Sheindorf, is also a respected jurist among senior civil servants.

A perusal of the names of the candidates reveals a conspicuous male majority, only two of the candidates are women.

The preferred candidate for the Minister of Justice is Adv. Bahrav-Myara, with whom he has had early and personal acquaintance since the time he specialized in the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office.

Another leading candidate is Nazri, one of the esteemed jurists in the State Attorney’s Office.

Nizri has already served under four different legal advisors and knows the work of the adviser thoroughly.

Nizri was part of a team that discussed the filing of indictments in most of the major cases, including Netanyahu's cases.

The commission, chaired by retired Supreme Court President Asher Grunis, has begun interviews and is expected to publish its findings within 21 days.

Justice Minister Gideon Saar will then bring the final candidates for government approval.

The current ombudsman, Mandelblit, will end his term this coming February, so the process of selecting a replacement may not end before he retires.

The Government Advisory Committee for the Election of the Attorney General consists of five members.

The committee is headed by retired judge Asher Grunis, a former Supreme Court president after whom the committee will also be named.

Grunis was appointed by Supreme Court President Justice Esther Hayut and with the consent of Justice Minister Gideon Saar, former Justice Minister Dan Meridor as a government representative, MK Zvi Hauser as a Knesset representative, Adv. Tami Ullman as a representative of the Bar Association and Professor Ron Shapira as a representative of the academy.

The Attorney General of Israel is one of the most important legal figures in the country.

He serves both as the Attorney General and as the head of the prosecution and his immense and powerful power.

The procedure for his appointment is done by the executive, beginning with a locating committee and ending with the approval of the government, but once authorized for the position, the government can no longer interfere in its decisions.
