Again there are more corona infections in Schleswig-Holstein.

The state government therefore wants to tighten the rules again.

Prime Minister Günther makes one thing confident.

Kiel - Schleswig-Holstein announced further restrictions on Friday before the federal states consulted on the corona situation. From next week, seated events, for example in the theater, cinema or concerts, should only be allowed to 500 people. For organized sport and in the fitness studio, 2G plus applies to everyone aged 18 and over. Only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered with a current test are allowed access - with the exception of people with a booster.

"We are currently seeing an increase in infections - cases have also occurred after visiting discotheques," said Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU). The level of new infections meanwhile has a different meaning than in the previous corona waves. The high vaccination rate reduces the number of severe courses. Studies from other countries have confirmed this. The hospitalization incidence and the load on intensive care capacities remained the benchmark. These are currently well below the values from a year ago. Nevertheless, in view of the currently very strong increase in the number of infections, it is right to remain cautious, which is why the state government is planning further measures, said Günther.

According to the state registration office, 2976 new corona infections were recorded on Wednesday. The number of new infections recorded per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 405.4. According to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday morning, Schleswig-Holstein was the state with the fifth highest incidence - after Bremen, Brandenburg, Berlin and Hamburg. The incidence of hospitalization was 3.13. It indicates how many corona sufferers per 100,000 people came to clinics within a week. 221 Covid patients were treated in hospitals, 52 of them in intensive care units. 33 of them were ventilated.

The government also wants to expand the mask requirement.

In future, it should also apply to employees in retail, regardless of physical barriers such as at the cash register.

If the state parliament in its special session on Monday determines an epidemic situation for the north as planned, discos and similar facilities are to be closed.

A curfew is also planned from 11pm to 5am.

The number of infections has soared recently because participants in large Christmas parties in clubs were infected in several places.

Thousands of people are in quarantine because numerous guests there were infected with the Omikron variant.

In the opinion of State Parliament Vice President Aminata Touré, the state government has also made mistakes in dealing with the pandemic. “Definitely,” said the Green politician to the “Kieler Nachrichten” when asked about it. “But we as politics as a whole, I would say. For a long time it was acted on the principle that the low incidences are exclusively the result of good politics in the north. "

The SPD social politician Birte Pauls demanded "to do everything now to protect the health of the population and the critical infrastructure". More tests, contact restrictions and low-threshold vaccination offers are also necessary. "Further measures should be implemented in accordance with the northern German federal states or nationwide, so that it does not happen again that clubs are closed in Hamburg and people are allowed to dance in Schleswig-Holstein."

The district administrator of the currently particularly affected district of Dithmarschen, Stefan Mohrdieck, calls for a clear course. "Maybe we should be a little more relaxed," said Mohrdieck of the German press agency. It has to be decided whether restrictions will be withdrawn and “maybe we will also let things go” because the Omikron variant is not so dangerous according to medical experts. "If you don't follow this conviction, of course we have to have clearly rigorous measures, which then tend to go in the direction of lockdown, which then really encourage people to pause and restrict contacts."

With 671.7, according to the Robert Koch Institute, the district had the highest number of new infections within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants in Germany after the city of Bremen on Thursday morning. The RKI list refers to the numbers from the previous day - that is, from Wednesday. On Thursday afternoon, the district reported 350 new cases and the incidence was 808.6.

Meanwhile, school lessons are to start on Monday under tightened corona protective measures.

Three instead of two tests per week are planned for the first two weeks.

Face-to-face teaching has the highest priority, said Minister of Education Karin Prien (CDU).

“Schoolchildren need continuity and normality as much as possible.” There are plans to expand the compulsory test to include those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated.

From Monday, all types of schools and all age groups must wear a mask.

Elementary and special school students are taught in cohorts.

Schleswig-Holstein has already implemented proposals from the health ministers to shorten corona quarantine times.

From now on, ten days are uniform for close contact persons of infected people - regardless of the virus variant.

Vaccinated employees with basic immunization from areas of critical infrastructure can go back to work after five days after a negative PCR test.
