LE FIGARO: How does Russia view the current crisis in Kazakhstan?

Russia's main objective is to maintain a predictable and stable partner. In Kazakhstan, the sooner the situation stabilizes, the better for Moscow. It is important to understand that whatever the outcome of the crisis, any new configuration of Kazakh power will suit the Kremlin, provided that power is capable of acting. Moscow starts from the assumption that the entire Kazakhstani elite is well disposed towards it. Note that the current demonstrations do not have a leader. No serious alternative to the current government is emerging. Moreover, President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev is very suitable. That said, he will only be supported if he demonstrates his ability to control the situation, to act effectively and firmly.
