The authorities in South Africa announced today that firefighting teams managed to contain the fire that broke out in the parliament complex, which has been raging for four days, destroying the headquarters of the country's national legislature.
And the Associated Press quoted a statement to Parliament that 300 firefighters worked for more than 71 hours to completely contain the fire.
For his part, a police source said that a man suspected of causing the fire that broke out last Sunday has been arrested, and the authorities refused to speculate on the man's possible motives and said it was too early to say whether the fire was a premeditated attack.
The authorities announced two days ago that the fire had been contained and that they had begun assessing the damage before the fire started to flare up again.
A huge fire broke out at Parliament House on Sunday as the South African police unit dealing with serious crimes took control of the compound to investigate the cause of the fire.
