The naval patrol officer said upon his release: "I would like to thank the entire State of Israel for the endless embrace"

Capt. Ron Birman, the naval patrol officer who survived the bat helicopter crash off the coast of Haifa, was released today (Thursday) from Rambam Hospital. Seconds before the helicopter dives into the water.

"I want to say that Shlomi is good, there has been a very big improvement," Birman said upon his release.

"Many thanks to Rambam Hospital for treating me with endless dedication, to the squadron and the IDF who gave everything they could and to the entire State of Israel for the endless embrace I feel from you. I appreciate everything and thank you very much."

Yesterday, Birman told Chief of Staff Major General Aviv Kochavi that "the pilots saved me before the crash, the actions they took gave me the opportunity."

Kochavi told Capt. Birman: "As a commander, the first thing you think of in such an incident is about the casualties. I was very happy to hear that you survived.

As you may recall, on Monday a military helicopter of the "Bat" type crashed with three crew members at sea off the coast of Haifa.

Helicopter crew members were rescued by Yaltam fighters, 13th Squadron fighters, 669 fighters and naval police forces who provided the pilots with initial treatment, and after resuscitation efforts were forced to determine their deaths.
