Youth for youth project: Covered picnic benches in Geretsried

Covered picnic benches should be set up as additional meeting points for young people.

Geretsried - The newly elected youth council recently presented itself to the city council - and brought an application with them.

The committee would like to set up covered picnic benches in the city area to give young people the opportunity to meet there.

"Many live in apartments and want to maintain their social contacts in nature," said spokeswoman Isabella Schrills to the city council.

Youth advisor Felix Leipold (Free Voters) added that this topic had been brought up to the mobile youth work.

Schrills: "The need has grown due to the corona pandemic."

Erste Bank is to be set up in the city forest

Three benches are planned.

The first is to be set up on the exercise course in the city forest.

"Then we want to see further," said Vice Youth Council spokesman Eric Buchalik.

Two more are planned on the Isardamm and on the Böhmwiese.

The youth council expects costs of 2,500 euros per bank including rubbish bins.

The youth council would like to pay half of each of the first two banks from its budget, the rest asked the city council to take over the rest.

This is where Martina Raschke (Greens) hooked up.

“You still have a large budget,” she said and suggested, “Use it to finance the banks for faster implementation.

"We make sure that the maintenance runs through the building yard," says Raschke.

Young people could design their own picnic benches

Schrills advocated the approach proposed by the youth council.

“We saved the money for a relatively long time.

If we knock everything out now, we won't have any more for other youth projects, ”said the spokeswoman.

In addition, other citizens could also sit on the benches.

Volker Reeh (Geretsried List) offered to establish contacts with potential sponsors as a business consultant.

The youth councils themselves anticipated the possible point of criticism that such benches could be prone to vandalism. "It's a project by young people for young people," argued Schrills. One can hope for human reason. Leipold announced that he wanted to use the benches for events. “The project is supposed to show the young people that if you want something, it will be implemented. But you also have to deal with it responsibly, ”said the youth officer. Sabine Lorenz (CSU) suggested having the benches designed specifically for an action. "Then it's quiet."

The city council unanimously approved the motion.

Wolfgang Werner (SPD) suggested that dixitoilettes would be a good addition.

"The benches invite you to linger," said the sports officer.
