Two people, a 53-year-old mother and her 20-year-old son, have died this Friday morning after the fire that occurred in their home, in the center of the Granada town of Maracena (22,358 inhabitants), according to Europe. Press. The father of the family, 54, has been rescued alive although with serious burns and has been transferred to the Virgen de las Nieves hospital in the capital of Granada, adjacent to Maracena. After the fire, the exterior of the house has been left with obvious signs of an intense exit of smoke through a small terrace of the house. The family consisted of one more daughter who, at the time of the fire, was not inside the residence.

The Emergency 112 service received a call at 9:12 in the morning warning of a fire in Gómez de la Serna Street that, according to Emergencies sources, had been active for a few minutes.

Several teams of Maracena firefighters have traveled there, arriving in a few minutes, as well as local police, Civil Guard, local Civil Protection volunteers and health services, which included a critical unit.

Firefighters have found the bodies of the mother and child upon arrival.

At noon, a few hours after the call to the emergency service, Gómez de la Serna street, a narrow road made up mostly of single-family homes like those that the affected family lived, was still blocked by the judicial police who are investigating the causes of the event.

For now the reason for the fire is unknown, although the first investigations point to a brazier or a stove as the origin of the fire.

The mayor of Maracena, Noel López, has declared three days of official mourning in the city - from Saturday January 8 to Monday 10 - and has suspended all official public events organized by the consistory.

López has sent his "condolences and solidarity" on behalf of the city council to the families of the victims.
