In accordance with tradition, it was the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, who invited him in a letter to "
share his vision on the State of the Union
", an invitation that the American president should , without much surprise, accept.
The date of March 1 is particularly late, the "
State of the Union
" usually taking place in the last weeks of January, or early February.
It is probably explained by a health reason, at a time when the Omicron variant is raging in the United States, this speech usually being given in front of hundreds of parliamentarians and guests gathered in the hemicycle.
But this deadline also gives the American president a little more time to vote for several of his major reforms stuck for months in the American Congress, which he could then potentially boast during this speech.
