According to Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD), the new Coronavirus variant Omikron now accounts for 80 percent of infections in Rhineland-Palatinate.
That was the result of the latest calculations and estimates by the laboratory operator Bioscientia from Ingelheim, she said on Friday.
"That means that we will now see that our incidences will rise very sharply."
Mainz - Dreyer welcomed the fact that the 2G-plus rule, which is already in force in Rhineland-Palatinate, is now to be implemented nationwide in gastronomy.
The state heads of government and the federal government had previously discussed the further course in combating the pandemic.
