A few dozen police officers against a whipped horde of thousands of brutal attackers - that was the situation Harry Dunn found himself in on January 6, 2021.
He was one of the protectors trying to defend one of the most important symbols of American democracy.
At the end of the day, Harry Dunn collapsed in the Capitol rotunda.
Completely exhausted from hours of fighting and deeply disillusioned with the day's events.
Sobbing, he shouted his frustration: "Is this America?"
Harry Dunn has become a tireless admonisher.
He calls on his fellow citizens to face the threat posed by those radical opponents of democracy, many of whom are Donald Trump.
His main argument against Republicans who belittle the storming of the Capitol in retrospect: his own experiences.
“On the other hand, Trump supporters and Republicans also write to him: You are a traitor, you are not a real police officer.
You broke an oath of office in which you did not prevent Biden from becoming president, «reports Alexandra Rojkov, who Harry Dunn met for SPIEGEL in Washington.
“He says it doesn't affect him anymore.
He says: I know what happened back then, and I know it wasn't a walk in the park, but massive violence. "
Harry Dunn also talks about this violence in the podcast.
And from the bad insults he had to endure during the fight.
In one situation, he was faced with around 20 intruders who shouted at him for minutes with the worst curse word black people in the US know - just because he said he had voted for Biden.
"You can still tell today how deeply shocked him that the demonstrators not only attacked him physically, like the other police officers," says Alexandra, "but that he was also massively insulted in a racist manner."
