BRUSSELS - Annual inflation in the eurozone will hit 5% in December 2021, up from 4.9% in November.
This is what Eurostat announces in its flash estimate for the last month of the past year.
Looking at the main components of inflation in the euro area, according to the EU statistical office, energy should record an annual inflation rate of 26% (in November it was 27.5%), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco. (3.2%, compared to 2.2% in November), non-energy industrial goods (2.9%, compared to 2.4%) and services (2.4%, compared to 2.7% the previous month ).
Looking at the member countries, Estonia (12%), Lithuania (10.7%) and Latvia (7.7%) recorded the highest inflation rate in December.
Malta (2.6%), Finland (3.2%) and France (3.4% 9 instead recorded the lowest indices, according to Eurostat. Italy, finally, according to flash estimates, in December recorded annual inflation of 4.2%, therefore lower than the European average.
