Vice President Kamala Harris was evacuated from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in Washington on January 6, 2021, minutes after a tube bomb was discovered nearby.

A former law enforcement official and a White House official confirmed to CNN that the then vice president-elect was the unidentified "protégé" listed as evicted from the building at approximately 1:14 p.m. ET on January 6, 2021. The evacuation came just seven minutes after Capitol Police began investigating the bomb, according to an internal police schedule obtained by CNN.

News of the evacuation of Kamala Harris was first reported by Politico.

Harris's presence at the DNC was unknown until now.

On Thursday, Harris declined to answer questions about his evacuation when asked by reporters at the White House.

Speaking Thursday to mark a year since the insurrection, Harris said he had been inside the Capitol that morning for a classified briefing of the Senate Intelligence committee before leaving.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) bomb threat was resolved at 4:36 p.m. ET, according to a timeline obtained by CNN.

CNN previously reported that the device and a similar one placed at the headquarters of the Republican National Committee had been tampered with with egg timers and filled with an explosive powder.

The bombs were discovered within minutes of each other around 1 p.m. ET on January 6, 2021, just as a mob of angry supporters of then-President Donald Trump descended on Capitol Hill after a rally near the House. The suspect is believed to have planted two tube bombs near the RNC and DNC headquarters the night before the Capitol riots.

Information released in September included a virtual map highlighting the route the suspect traveled while planting the two bombs between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM on January 5, 2021.

Since then, the FBI has been unsuccessful in identifying the individual, despite the agency and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives offering a $ 100,000 reward.

Video footage released in September shows the suspect sitting on the bench near the DNC, in the area where the tube bomb was later planted, according to the FBI.
