Brutal violence in Kazakhstan for the second day in a row.

The Kazakh police now released videos showing the rioting and the reaction of the security forces in several locations around the country on Thursday.

The police in the largest city, Almaty, said they had killed dozens of people that they called "rioters" during the night.

Authorities said 26 protesters were killed and more than 3,000 arrested.

The Ministry of the Interior spoke of "armed criminals".

The General Prosecutor's Office initiated criminal proceedings for organizing and participating in mass riots.

Displeasure over the rise in fuel prices in the ex-Soviet republic has turned into violent protests against the government in the past few days.

The riots have now spread from Almaty to other parts of the country (placemark).

This burning building is said to be one of the ruling Nur Otan party of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Tokayev had previously requested military assistance from the Russian-led military alliance in the region.

The first units of this so-called "peacekeeping force" arrived in Kazakhstan on Thursday.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on Friday, according to the Ria news agency, that Moscow was on the side of Kazakhstan.

However, the country could solve its current difficulties on its own.

According to the Kazakh government, the solution lies clearly in the brutal suppression of the protests.

President Tokayev said the security forces' operations should continue until the "fighters are completely wiped out."

On Friday he finally gave them the order to open fire on the demonstrators without warning in the event of future riots.
